John Smelser III

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of John Smelser III, who left this world at the age of 75, surrounded by the love of his family.

He is survived by his devoted wife and love of 55 years, Yolanda Smelser, and his three children:Ian and Michelle, Heather and Ben, and Jennifer. His legacy continues through a large and loving family of grandchildren: Christopher and Cera, Geoffrey and Aspen, Jacob and Kyleigh, Stephen and Taylor, Tristen and Vannah, Brennan, & Joel. and 5 amazing great-grandchildren, each of whom carry a piece of his strength, humor, and heart.

Preceded in death parents John and Ida Smelser, brother Leslie Smelser, sister Marnie Smelser, and grandson Parker Smelser. He is survived by all of the above and sister Ruth, nephew Alexander, and niece Marnie Smelser, and a abundant family of in-laws that felt like immediate family.

A proud and driven entrepreneur, John was the founder and longtime owner of American Transportation Systems, where he built not only a successful business, but also a reputation for integrity, hard work, and leadership. His entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by his generosity and willingness to help those around him.

He was more than a husband, father, and grandfather-he was a rock to many. A natural mentor and a friend to all, he was a man who fathered beyond blood and offered guidance and warmth to anyone in need. His steady presence was a cornerstone in the lives of so many.

We take comfort in knowing his final moments were peaceful, filled with the same deep love and closeness he so freely gave throughout his life.

A celebration of his life will be held at FRENCH Funerals & Cremations - Lomas Chapel on June, 27 at 2:00 p.m., information on reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to American Heart Association in honor of a man who built so much and gave even more.
