John Pittman

December 30, 1964 — November 2, 2023

John P. Pittman (12/30/64 – 11/2/23)

John (Johnny) was born in Washington DC on December 30, 1964. He is survived by his daughter Rachel, son Ryan, mother Jeanne, brother Mike, sister Debbie (Ron), brother David (Wendy), and many nieces and nephews and stepmother Rita.

He was preceded in death by his father Michael Pittman and stepfather Joe Gironda. Johnny grew up in Albuquerque. He attended Our Lady of Fatima Catholic school and graduated from Del Norte high school where he was on the varsity baseball team. Johnny went one semester to UNM and then move to New Orleans where he attended UNO. He completed his education online and received an associate degree in general studies. While in New Orleans he joined a softball team and had his name unofficially changed to Al as part of the Gutter Gang. He worked 25 years for Fat Tuesday in New Orleans, Jacksonville, Washington DC, and Las Vegas, NV. Johnny moved to Reno and worked 10 years for TSA.

Johnny was a caring and compassionate man who had a competitive nature. Johnny loved all sports, played softball, was part of the billiards league and enjoyed playing golf. He was also a great fan of the New Orleans Saints. Johnny is described by family, friends and colleagues as a man who truly cared for people and always was willing to help anyone in need.

Johnny put up a courageous fight with ALS and unfortunately, he lost his battle. John you'll be greatly missed especially by all his family, friends, and coworkers. We are deeply saddened that we had to say goodbye to our Johnny (Al) much too soon, but he'll be forever in our hearts. Our heartfelt thanks to John's wonderful caregivers Kelly and Christina and to all the doctors and nurses who cared for Johnny at Lovelace Women's Hospital and UNM hospital. We also have a special place in our hearts for Denise and Lesley for all they have done.

In lieu of flowers, please make any contributions to the Gleason Foundation (teamgleason.org) or the ALS Association (ALSNM.og).
