John (Jack) E. Perner, 81, a former El Paso resident and a two year Albuquerque resident, passed away on January 14, 2017. Jack relocated to Albuquerque to be close to family to assist him with his battle with Parkinson Disease. He was born in El Paso and spent his adult life working as an administrative manager with IBM.
His father was from the Ozuna/Sanderson Texas area and worked with American Smelting & Refining Co in their Santa Barbara, Chihuahua, Mexico facility. His mother was from Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico. The parents met, married and had two children. In addition to his father and mother, the Hyslop family (mother's family) consisted of seven brothers and sisters. His father had one sister who lived in Chile, South America.
Jack and his brother attended a one room school house and later Allen Military Academy in Bryan, TX. Jack attended the University of Arizona, then joined the Army and served for several years.
A special item of interest for Jack was his seeing the Hyslop family home known as "Hacienda de Santiago" which had served as the family home until it was taken over by Pancho Villa as his Northern Mexico Headquarters.
Jack is survived by his brother, James Perner of Albuquerque; and his nephews, John R. Perner of Albuquerque and Jeffrey B. Perner of Santa Fe and their families.
Jack and his family are members of Hope in the Desert Episcopal Church in Albuquerque. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Hope in the Desert Episcopal Church, 8700 Alameda Blvd NE, with Father Dan Tuton officiating.
