John Leonard Moses Gallegos “Big John,” age 82, passed away peacefully on the evening of November 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his home.
Born on September 5, 1943, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, John was the beloved son of the late Joe L. Gallegos and MaryLou Gallegos. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many.
Big John was a man of many talents and passions. He loved to dance, weld, and operate heavy equipment — but above all, he loved to spoil his family. His personality was larger than life; he was charismatic, funny, and had a way of lighting up any room he entered. John taught those around him to live life to the fullest, to laugh often, and to have no regrets.
He will be remembered for his big heart, unforgettable sense of humor, and the deep love he shared with everyone fortunate enough to know him.Big John was deeply loved by his family and friends, and his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, MaryAlice Gallegos; their daughter, Roxanne Romo; grandchildren, Destiny Romo and fiancé, James, Eugene Romo and girlfriend, Rebecca, and Jade Romo and fiancé, Jesus “Chuey”; great-grandchildren, Brandon “Brando” and Camila “Cami”; his sons, Leon and Jeff Gallegos; and his nephews, other relatives, and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and MaryLou Gallegos; brother, Gilbert Gallegos; and sister, Rose Lopez.
Services will be held Wednesday, November 19, 2025, 3:00 p.m., at FRENCH – University, with visitation beginning at 2:30 p.m. A reception will follow services.
