John Humbel

John Humbel, age 88, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024, in Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elisabeth; two sisters, Sr. Mary Anne Humbel and Jane Dahlman. He is survived by his sons, Frank wife, Jennifer, and Joseph, and grandsons, Luke and Jacob.

 John was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 26,1936. He taught History at Manhattan College and at Catholic University in Washington DC. In 1973, John and his wife, Elisabeth, decided to move to Albuquerque to raise a family.

 John was a lifetime Detroit Tiger fan. He loved baseball. He enjoyed traveling the world and enjoyed studying all types of history. His true passion was his Catholic faith. He enjoyed studying the Bible and being an active member in his Parish. John was a Sunday greeter for over 40 years, he taught church history, and was involved in the RCIA.

 John and his wife, Elisabeth loved to travel the world, play card games, and just spend quality time together. He was a great father to his two sons. He raised his boys to have a strong character. He was a proud grandpa. His face would glow with pride when he would see his two grandchildren. He would talk about baseball and how school was going. He would always make sure they had a scoop of ice cream with him.

 John had many friends. He kept close contact with his childhood friends, his former students, and would make friends wherever he would go. John enjoyed going to morning Mass and then going to breakfast with his friends.

 Rosary will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., with a Funeral Mass to follow at 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 2621 Vermont St NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family request that John is honored through donations to Catholic Charities of Central New Mexico.
