Joe G Romero

December 2, 1944 — August 7, 2023

Joseph Eugene Romero, 78, beloved brother, father, uncle, and grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend was called to his eternal resting place on Monday, August 7, 2023.
He entered this world on Saturday, December 2, 1944 in Clovis, NM, born to Eugene and Isabella Romero. He was the first born of six children. He is survived by his wife Maura (Olivia) Romero; son Manuel Romero; son Armando Romero; and spouse Mike Basile; daughter Angelica Pollett; and spouse Donnie Pollett; daughter Lysandra Lopez; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was passionate about music. He spent most of his free time singing, writing songs, and playing the bass guitar. Through the years, many knew him by his stage name, "Purple Cactus Vato". He played with some of New Mexico's finest musicians in his music career spanning over six decades. His ability to convey messages through his written songs and performances will not be forgotten. Most recently, his family has found comfort in one of his songs, "Lose your blues and laugh at life".
No services are scheduled at this time, but will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name to one of the following non-profits would be appreciated: The Music Guild of New Mexico, New Mexico Music Community Initiative or Save the Music.
