Joan Costello

Joan Costello peacefully passed away on Friday, March 27, 2020 at the age of 86 while sitting on her couch, holding Karen’s hand, and watching her favorite show, Jeopardy.

Vincent, her husband of 58 years, preceded her in death in April of 2013.  She is survived by her two daughters, Karen Fox, husband Keith, Theresa Costello, husband Joe Redmond; her three beloved granddaughters, Lindsey Stair, husband Drew, Jamie Abraham, husband Chase, Maddie Redmond; and her ever precious great-grandson, Logan Stair.

Joan was born in London, England where she grew up during World War II.  At the age of eight, she and her brother Brian were “evacuated” to the countryside for safety due to bombing in the city. She was separated from her parents until the war was over and then reunited with them and a new baby brother, Michael. She met Vince at a bus stop in London when he was stationed there during the Korean conflict. They were married in England and Vince hoped for an Air Force re-assignment back to his home state of New York, but instead, they were sent to New Mexico! Once they got past the initial shock of life in the desert they came to love New Mexico and made a great life for themselves and their family. Joan will always be remembered for her amazing talents, two of which were knitting and crocheting beautiful gifts for many babies and youngsters. She enjoyed working on the crossword puzzle in the newspaper every day and gladly accepted help from any visitors present, especially her granddaughters who could quickly use their cell phones to search for the answer if they did not know it.

We wish to express our gratitude to Patricia for her patience, kindness, and loving care.  Her presence as a caregiver was a great joy and comfort to Mom and to us.  It was our privilege to call her Mama, Nana, and Great Nana. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all of us and those who knew her.
