Joan Adele (Carlow) Johnson went home to heaven on June 20th, 2026, at 81 years old. As a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin, and friend, she will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Adele (Bonza) Carlow; her Aunt Josephine (Fred) and her Uncle Louis; her siblings: Sterling Kay and Marge Carlow, Ferrel Don and Jeanne Carlow, Gwen Bonza, and Earlene (Jim) Wilson; her son Jeremiah Johnson. She is survived by her husband, Fred Johnson; her daughter, Priscilla (PJ; Nathan) and her step-daughters, Jennifer (Charles) Jones and Carol (Roy) Cozart; her daughter-in-law, Christine Johnson; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Joannie was born on April 7, 1945, in Dragerton, Utah, the youngest of 6 siblings. She graduated as a valedictorian from Notre Dame De Lourdes Regional School and attended Mount St. Scholastica College for women in Kansas. She met Fred in Kayenta, Arizona, and they were married on December 6th, 1975.
Joan completed her Master of Education at Northern Arizona University, fulfilling a dream and gaining access to several more influential positions within educational systems. She retired from Civil Service and continued to be a passionate and dynamic teacher of the Bible serving her church family and community through creative and challenging strategies that encouraged growth and a deeper love of The Father, His Son, and the power of the Holy Spirit.
Joan was proud of her children, her husband, her students, and her family. She has left a legacy of love, connection, faith, and creativity with everyone she knew.
Please join us for her memorial service at First Baptist Church of West Albuquerque, 6400 Golf Course Rd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120 on Friday, September 11th, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow. Attire: Southwest Casual or "Joanie-esque". In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Joan's name to the Albuquerque Christian Children's Home. (https://www.acch4kids.org/).
