"Pretty good for an old fossil". That's how Jimmie T. Martin answered the question: How are you?
Jim Taylor Martin passed away on August 16th, 2025 at 90 years old. He has gone to be with his wife of 37 years, Dawn, who he said was the most beautiful person anyone has ever had the privilege of knowing. They loved to travel thorough out Europe and Mexico. They also loved tennis and honeymooned at Taos Tennis Ranch.
Jim is survived by his son Ben Martin and daughter-in-law Dana Martin, son Chris Martin, daughter Felonis Newman, daughter Justine Alires, and daughter Kaye Pettit and son-in-law Chris Pettit. He is also survived by his loving step children: step-daughter San Daugherty, step-son Grant Daugherty and step-son Jeff Daugherty. His is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Tylor Martin, Crystal and CJ Hildebrand with daughters Katelyn and Victoria, Markita Newman, Sara Novy and husband Tyler, Janie Alires, and Alex Pettit.
Jim is preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children Patricia Martin and is still friends with her brother, Tom Alires.
As we were growing up, Jim was very kind to our friends and they used to call him M&M for Mr. Martin. He loved to share his wisdom with us. His favorite saying was: "Anything will fit as long as you get it going fast enough", probably from his engineering days at Los Alamos National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratory.
He served in the Air Force between 1952 and 1961.
He was born in Lufkin Texas in 1935 to Pauline and Clarence Martin. They lived next door to his Aunt Evy who raised his mom.
Thank you, Jim and Dawn, for bringing together both wonderful families. Now it's time to reluctantly say goodbye. Love you!
A Memorial Service for Jim will take place on March 30, 2026 at 11am, followed by a reception, at FRENCH-Lomas.
