Jesus Jose Juan Rios, 80, lovingly known to many as "Hibbie," and/or "Jesse", beloved husband, father, grandfather, great‑grandfather, and friend, was called to his eternal resting place on December 18, 2025.
He entered this world on February 6, 1945, in Rincon, New Mexico; born to Feliciano and Consuelo Rios. He was preceded in death by his sister, Teresa Rios Sandoval, and his brother, Charlie Rios.
Jesus is survived by his loving wife, "Mamasota" Sherry C. De Baca Rios, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage; his children, Elaine Martinez (husband Jerry Martinez), "Daddy's girl" Eileen Rios Stump (husband Daniel Stump), and Jesus "Chewy" Rios; as well as his sister, Cecelia Gomez. He is also survived by his grandchildren, "Mocha" Tiffany Martinez-Padilla, Jerry Martinez Jr. (Ashley Baca), "Juan" Jonathan Martinez (Monique Cavalier), Vanessa Martinez, and Theodore Rios; in addition, his brother‑in‑law, Dan Sandoval, and sister‑in‑law Martha Blea. His great‑grandchildren include, "The boy" Elias and "The princess" Kiayah Padilla, Dominic Baca, Jaylah and Noah Martinez, "Juanito" Jonathan Jr., Jordan, and Janae Martinez, Maleiah Martinez and Lianna Montoya.
Jesus proudly served in the United States Army from February 24, 1969, to February 23, 1971, and continued his dedication to service as a proud member of American Legion Post 13, as well as the Knights of Columbus.
He went on to become a devoted educator for more than 35 years--an accomplishment he considered one of the greatest honors of his life.
Jesus loved to hunt, he was a natural horticulturalist in his own right and took pride in always looking sharp and clean-cut. Between the cologne you could smell from across the room and a beer in his hand, you always knew when he had arrived- and that a good time would follow.
Hibbie had a sharp sense of humor and was known for his perfectly timed, backhanded comments - always delivered with a straight face and a hint of a smile.
At his core, he was a devoted family man who took pride in being present, dependable, and protective of the people he loved. Family meant everything to him, and his faith guided his life and the values he lived by, shaping the way he loved, served, and cared for others. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Rosary will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2026, 9:30 a.m., at San Ignacio Catholic Church, 1300 Walter St. NE, followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 2:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Jerry Martinez, Daniel Stump, Jerry (Jew Jew) Martinez, Jonathan Martinez, Elias Padilla, and Daniel Sandoval.
