Jerry E. Zimmerman, born July 9th, 1936, passed away July 30 , 2026, surrounded by his wife Donna of 65 years and daughter, Jennifer Zimmerman Vincent.
Jerry's early years were spent in Independence, Kansas, on a farm about which he wrote two books chronicling his life, "Curse at Squaw Creek Farm " and "So Far From Squaw Creek Farm," that focused on overcoming the challenge of an accident he suffered at the age of 3 that left him partially handicapped.
Jerry earned his BA at Eastern N.M University & Master's at Denver University then moved to Albuquerque where he worked for the Department of Energy for 30+ years .
Jerry founded and served as president of the New Mexico Handicapped Association, and on the White House Committee for Handicapped Accessible Reform.
As an active member of the Masonic Lodge Mesa 68, Scottish Right, and Shriners, Jerry was elected potentate of New Mexico Ballut Abyad Shrine and served on the board of the Los Angeles Shriners Hospital.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Donna; daughter, Jennifer; brother, Lloyd and wife, Molly; and nephew, Max & Curtis families.
His Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026, 1:00 p.m., at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 9315 Candelaria Rd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112.
