Jeanne Elizabeth McGillan Brummell, born on July 6, 1940, passed away on March 29 after a long battle with dementia. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth Terhaar and Edward Thomas McGillan, and her sister Marcia Cummings.
Jeanne was a vibrant soul whose warmth and kindness left a lasting impression. She was the beloved wife of Bernard ("Gig") Brummell, with whom she shared an enduring love and steadfast companionship. Jeanne found immense joy in her children, Linley (Michael) and Craig (Marta), her treasured grandchildren-Lauren, Ryan, Maya, Ellie, Ben, Leo, and Moira, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jeanne delighted in her friends, engaging in thoughtful conversations, long walks, and curated travels. A proud lifelong New Mexican, she embodied the essence of true friendship, gathering each year with her beloved Pi Phi sisters. Connection was at the heart of how Jeanne lived and loved.
An avid tennis player, fly fisherwoman, and golfer, Jeanne embraced life with enthusiasm. Her love of travel created memorable experiences from African safaris to European bike trips, and treasured anniversary trips to Hawaii. Her passion for staying active was only matched by her commitment to helping others. Having attended undergraduate at the University of Arizona and the University of New Mexico, Jeanne went on to earn her master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of New Mexico. She dedicated her professional life to supporting people through her roles at PNM as an employee assistance provider and later as a career counselor at UNM. In retirement, Jeanne continued to serve her community through dedicated involvement on various boards serving children and mental and behavioral health.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at La Vida Llena, Roadrunner Hospice, and Jeanne's personal companions, who supported Jeanne, Gig, and the family with kindness, compassion, and dedication for many years.
Private funeral services will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held May 17, 2025, at 11am at the Albuquerque Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations to Catholic Charities of Central New Mexico or Saranam are appreciated.
