Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Catherine Thomas, who departed this life on November 26, 2025 at her home in Edgewood, New Mexico, surrounded by her devoted husband Jim and daughter Pam.

Born on June 30, 1948, in Agana, Guam, Jean spent her early years on the island before beginning a life of adventure and service that took her to San Diego, California; Lake Charles, Louisiana; Asan, Guam; Chesapeake, Virginia; and finally, Edgewood, New Mexico. Wherever she lived, Jean touched the hearts of those around her with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for family and friends.

Jean is lovingly remembered by her husband, James G. Thomas, LCDR SC USN (Ret.); daughters, Carol Kershaw and Pamela Kulusich; son, James Fontenot; sister, Laura Alworth; and Mother, Clementina Churchill. She leaves behind eight grandchildren and fifteen great‑grandchildren, all of whom will carry her spirit forward. She is reunited in eternal rest with her father, Phillip A. Churchill, USN; her first husband, Frank J. Fontenot; her youngest daughter, Tammy Easton; sister, Barbara Oliver; and brother, Phillip Churchill.

Jean's life was rich with passion and creativity. She was known for her love of dance, often performing Hula at Chamorro fiestas, and she delighted in line dancing with friends. Her career spanned diverse fields, including shipyards, base exchange stores, semiconductor manufacturing, and RV park management. A gifted cook, she even served as a judge in Department of Defense culinary competitions. Her talent for decorating-especially her legendary Christmas trees-was admired by all, with friends often remarking they were worthy of display at Macy's.

In January 1995, Jean was honored by the Guam Legislature for her volunteer service in local villages, a testament to her lifelong commitment to community. Her warmth, compassion, and ability to bring joy to others will remain an enduring legacy.

A Celebration of Jean's Life will be held on December 12, 2025 at FRENCH- Lomas. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by the service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at the National Cemetery of Santa Fe. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Jean are invited to attend, share memories, and honor her remarkable life.

Jean will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her warmth, compassion, and the lasting impact she made on the world.
