It is with immense sorrow that we announce the passing of Janice Marie Horne, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 79. She left us on December 8, 2025, after a prolonged illness. Her departure leaves an unfillable void in our hearts, although we find comfort and peace in the love and memories that we shared.
Born on May 8, 1946, to Jack Didio and Loretta "Jackie" Chafin in Tucumcari, New Mexico. She was a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, niece, wife, aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
Janice moved to Albuquerque in 1948 with her mother, Jackie, and her stepfather, Daylon Chafin. She attended Manzano High School and graduated in 1964. Following high school, she worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a secretary. She transitioned into a medical career where she started as a nursing assistant. In 1970, Janice attended nursing school and became a registered nurse. She found her passion as a Labor and Delivery nurse and worked at Presbyterian Hospital for most of her nursing career. She went on to co-develop the Obstetrics Flight program there. She had a great passion and joy for obstetrics nursing and working with new mothers.
Janice met George Terry Horne in 1964 while visiting her father, Jack, in El Paso, Texas where she stole his heart. They were married on July 3, 1965. They returned to Albuquerque to build a family together. Janice and Terry were committed to each other for over 60 years.
In 2006, Janice retired and spent most of her time with Terry. They enjoyed taking cruises, spending time with family, shopping until they dropped, and enjoying the simple life.
Janice is survived by her husband, Terry Horne; daughter, Daylene Horn; son, Shawn Horne; sister-in-law, Debbie Chafin; grandson, Brett Horne and wife Jamie; granddaughter, Alyshia Horne and fiancé, Jordan Dominguez; great-granddaughters, Samantha Rose Archuleta, and Amariea Marie Dominguez in addition to many cousins, nephews, nieces, and her precious pup, Ginger.
