Listen to Obituary

Janet Carmella "Farrington" Youngberg passed away on September 9, 2026, at her home after a short illness. Janet is survived by her son Leif Youngberg, daughter Kristin Youngberg, and her beloved grandsons, Erik, Niklas, and Alek.

She is also survived by her sister Nancy Higgins, brothers James Farrington and Anthony (Janice) Farrington; nieces Kim, Susan, Kaltzentli, Pamela, and Lisa. Nephews Michael, and John, and many cousins and grand nieces and nephews.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, James and Carmella, her husband Ralph, her son Eric, her dear friend and companion in later life, Dennis Sterosky, as well as all of her aunts and uncles and several cousins.

Janet was a lifelong resident of New Mexico, growing up in a downtown neighborhood and attending downtown public schools: Lew Wallace elementary, Washington junior high, and Albuquerque high school, where she graduated in 1960 and was a princess in the homecoming court. She graduated from UNM and was a member of pi beta phi sorority. It was at UNM that she met her future husband, Ralph Youngberg. They were married in 1964 and settled in Albuquerque to raise their family. Janet loved New Mexico- the food, the climate, the mountains, and the people. She loved to travel, but she loved to be back home just as much.

Janet was an avid tennis player, golfer, world traveler, and a world-class bridge player. She was also a long-time member of the Albuquerque country club, active in her book club with friends, and deeply philanthropic during her life. She generously supported many local causes including roadrunner food bank, Ronald McDonald house, and Albuquerque high school. She also endowed the Albuquerque community foundation and UNM golf scholarship program.

Janet was also a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church; she was a founding mother of "a child's garden" pre-school and active in many of the church fundraisers. Her church family was very important to her.

Her family would like to thank the caregivers that treated Janet so well in the last few years of her life.

A celebration of life for Janet will be held at the Albuquerque Country Club on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at 11:00 am . A private burial for immediate family will be held thereafter.
