Janet Rose King, 74, passed away late in the evening of June 12, 2026, at Enchanted Hills Assisted Living in NE Albuquerque. Born May 10, 1952, in Alpena Michigan, she was the daughter of Raymond Lawrence and Mary Licht.
Janet graduated from Bellflower High School in Bellflower, California in May of 1969. She enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1971 and served until December of 1974. After her time in the Air Force she attended Central Missouri State University, graduating in May of 1984 with a B.A. in psychology. Janet King was married to and survived by Dodson King. They were married from December 10, 1974 until May of 1993. She retired after a 20+ year career as a civil service technical writer for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). Janet was also a frequent volunteer for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program and substitute teacher for the Albuquerque Public School District. She enjoyed dancing, painting, gardening and teaching.
Janet is survived by her only child, Phillip King of Albuquerque; two grandchildren, Isaiah and Isabella King; as well as siblings, Elizabeth Mendoza (Anaheim, CA) and Margaret Schutt (Alpena, MI). She was preceded in death by parents, Raymond and Mary Lawrence; and her three brothers, Mike, Jimmy, and Robert Lawrence.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, July 10, 2026, 2:00 p.m., at FRENCH - University, with a reception to follow.
