Jane Neuenschwander Swift

February 22, 1929 — December 20, 2023

Jane Neuenschwander Swift of Albuquerque, NM passed on December 20, 2023 at her home at age 94.

In 1929 Jane was born and raised in her beloved Sistersville, WV to Paul Wells and Pauline Neuenschwander. Upon graduating from high school, she graduated from Mount Vernon Junior College in Washington DC. She went on to attend George Washington University, where she became a proud Delta Gamma sorority sister and remained active with them for decades.

In 1951 Jane married Douglas Swift and they celebrated 65 years together before Doug’s passing in 2016. Mom and Dad raised six children – Sharon, Susan, Michael, David, Barbara and Melanie with Mom carrying much of the duties while Dad was away as a Naval officer serving as Chief Engineer on aircraft carriers – Most notably the USS Midway and USS Yorktown.

In 1966 they moved to Albuquerque, NM. Mom and Dad were devoted to their children. Mom took very active roles in our education while we attended Albuquerque Public Schools. She developed close relationships with teachers and administrators at all our schools and we children quickly learned that these relationships were a good reason to “stay in line.”

She and Dad loved attending plays at Popejoy Hall and Albuquerque Little Theater and performances of the New Mexico Symphony and Philharmonic Orchestras. They also were able to travel in retirement taking many cruises to explore the world.

Mom was very active and generous with her time and financial support to many local and national charity organizations including American Field Service, American Heart Association, Glaucoma Foundation, Roadrunner Food Bank, New Mexico Symphony, Albuquerque Ronald McDonald House, UNM Children’s Hospital, Albuquerque Community Foundation and a host of many others.

Mom lived and led a long, fulfilled life and our family would like to thank the many people and organizations that made it so. Rest easy Mom. You did well and we are so proud of you. Your Loving Children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
