James William Smith, 95, passed away peacefully after a life devoted to family, military service, and professional excellence. Born on December 13, 1930, near Grandview, Indiana, to Edward Kenneth Smith and Ruby O'Neil Hedrick Smith, he was the eldest of six children. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elayne F. Smith, and stepdaughter Melodie A. Fross. He is survived by his son, Victor Marc Smith; his daughter, Elaine Marie Smith, all of Albuquerque, New Mexico; his stepchildren, Frederick H. (Rick) Schneider (Colette), and Mark G. (Greg) Schneider (Rebecca); six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; his sister, Mona Faye Howell; and his brother, Eldon Kenneth Smith (Brenda). A graduate of Chrisney High School and the University of New Mexico, where he earned a degree in accounting, he proudly served in the U.S. Air Forces and Air Force Reserve, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. A Certified Public Accountant, he became managing partner of Neff & Company, later founded Smith & Company, CPAs, and soon after merged companies with Clifton Gunderson LLP, CPAs, a national CPA firm. Upon retirement from Clifton Gunderson LLP, he opened an office as a registered representative of Coordinated Capital Securities, Inc. and an office as James W. Smith & Associates for accounting and business consulting. Remembered for his integrity, strong work ethic, and lifelong dedication to serving others, he leaves a lasting legacy that will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
