James Loid Gumm

March 2, 1938 — March 7, 2024

Jim was born March 2, 1938 in Billings, Oklahoma. He died peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, March 7, 2024 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 86.

He grew up in Billings, was a member of the Army National Guard until 1963, graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1963 and moved to Albuquerque where he met and married his wife, Gussie M. Patton in 1974. Jim was a mechanical engineer that retired from Honeywell. He loved to draw, play softball and golf, and was a lover of the outdoors. He was also an accomplished wood worker that designed and completed many beautiful projects for friends and family. He was a faithful Dallas Cowboys fan and cheered them on to the end!

Jim is survived by his wife, Gussie; daughters, Leslie Brown of Choctaw, Oklahoma and Leigh Machura of Albuquerque; sons, Gary Gumm of Las Vegas, Nevada and Todd Gumm of Gilbert, Arizona; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, LaVera Armstrong Gumm; father, Vernon Gumm; sister, Suzanne Woolard; and son, Casey Gumm.

A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor later this year.
