It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James E. Cooper, who departed this life in August 2026 at the age of 45. Born in March 1981 in Virginia, James lived a life full of compassion and adventure, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.

A graduate of West Mesa High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, James went on to build a successful career in the field of information technology. He worked for various companies before finding his niche as an Internet Technology Support Specialist with government contractors at Kirkland Air Force Base. His expertise and dedication made him an invaluable asset to his colleagues and the organizations he served.

James was an active member of the Catholic Church for many years before he found solace and community in non-denominational churches later in his life. His faith was a source of strength and comfort, guiding him through life's challenges and triumphs.

Passionate about the great outdoors, James found joy and peace in camping and hiking, often accompanied by the great friends who shared his love for outdoor living.

Known for his warm smile and readiness to help others, James was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. His generosity and kindness touched many lives, creating a legacy of goodwill and friendship.

James faced a profound and exhausting battle with alcohol addiction and its mental illness. The strain of this overtook his health, but his tenderness and lovingness were never lost.

James is survived by his parents, James and Denise Cooper; his two sisters and brother-in-law, Michelle (Christopher) Davis and Christine Cooper; and his nephew and niece, Zane and Maya.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Road Runner Food Bank of New Mexico, an organization close to James's heart. His spirit of giving and compassion will live on through the generosity of others.

James will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace, embraced by the love he so freely gave to others.

To honor the compassion, warmth, and humanity that defined James, the family will be holding two events. Family, friends, and all whose lives he touched are invited to gather in remembrance.

• The first memorial will take place in a private room at El Pinto Restaurant & Cantina on September 25, 2026, in Albuquerque, NM from 6 - 9 pm.
