James (Ed) Edward Brown was a loving husband and awesome father, grandfather and brother.

Born 11/20/1953 in Rantoul, IL he passed away peacefully in his sleep 03/14/2026 in Albuquerque, NM.

Ed is survived by his wife, Teresa Davidson Brown. His children Robin Brown, Devon Brown and Megan Brown and his grandchild Stella Linville. His sister Sara (Sally) Brown.

Ed was a Family Practice Physician for more than 30 years in Albuquerque. He was a Board-Certified Geriatrician. He wanted to be a doctor from a young age. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from Oklahoma State University and completed Medical School at The University of Oklahoma. He cared deeply about his patients and missed them sorely when he retired from ABQ Health Partners in 2013.

Ed grew up in Ardmore, OK. His father owned and operated a used car lot and that began a love of cars for Ed. His father liked buying and selling foreign cars as well as domestic cars. Ed was assigned to work in the body shop of his dad's car lot. A man named Amos taught Ed about Blues music, how to do good body work and how to be a good man. What a great legacy from Amos. Ed was always interested in foreign cars especially Italian cars. He spoke Italian only for car part names and paint colors. He restored several Italian cars to as close to original as possible. He studied how the cars were manufactured and often went to the companies who made the original parts to get replacements. His cars were impeccably restored often setting auction records.

Ed loved music. As a young man he had the opportunity to see many rock and roll bands of the day in concert. His hometown had a nearby lake and he purchased his first album (Led Zeppelin) at the local combination Music Store and Bait Shop. The last concert he attended was The Rolling Stones on his birthday in 2021 when they played Austin, TX. Ed liked rock and roll, heavy metal, reggae and blues.

During his college years, he came to New Mexico with friends to ski and hike in the winters. They always stopped for donuts in Santa Fe on their way to Taos. He loved the majestic mountains. He loved hiking in both winter and summer. After finishing medical school, he wanted to move to New Mexico to practice medicine and to live in the high desert. He was hired by Lovelace Medical.

He climbed Denali, Kilimanjaro, Mount Rainier and many fourteeners in Colorado. He also climbed Wheeler Peak, the highest mountain in New Mexico several times.

He loved water and never passed up an opportunity to be on or near the water. On a kayak trip to the Haida Gwaii region of Canada, a whale got interested in his kayak. Others around him were warning him about the whale. What could he do? When the whale blew through his/her blowhole, Ed got wet. He waited quietly until the whale lost interest. In the high country he encountered a Big Horn Sheep and a small rattlesnake with a big attitude. He also encountered a mountain lion on a sidewalk in Colorado. He reminded others often that the earth is their yard and we are visitors.

Ed had an uncanny ability to talk to people to calm them. He was often with people who were facing the most serious situations and he always remained calm himself and quietly supported others with kindness and compassion and helped them through what they were facing. That kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
