Irene Edith Schulte, cherished and affectionately known by many as "Grandma Nono", will be missed by all who were fortunate to know her. As Irene would say, "she flew out here" on June 17, 2016, peacefully surrounded by her loving family in San Luis Obispo, CA.
Irene was born in Armijo, NM, on October 29,1931. She lived in Albuquerque for most of her life, and spent her last years in San Luis Obispo, CA, with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Irene is now in heaven with her only son, Larry Leyba; her husband, Hugo Schulte, Sr.; her parents, Eliza and A. Lincoln, Sr. Metzgar; two sisters, Edna Pederson and Gladys Metzgar; and brother, A. Lincoln, Jr. Irene is survived by her granddaughter, Brigette Parzych with her husband and sons; Kevin, Andy, and Ben. Irene is also survived by her sisters, Lucy Lopez and Mabel Otero; as well as many relatives and friends.
Irene welcomed every person she met, receiving family, friends, and guests with compassion and a quick wit. Her delightful sense of humor, delicious cooking, and endless kindness brightened all who knew her. We honor Irene's love and her wonderful journey through this lifetime. We admire her strength, resilience, and determination; including her many successes at home and work. She ran several businesses and raised a family while she obtained a college degree and then an MBA with honors. Irene was a pioneering woman in the computer system analytics field and served her profession with distinction for over 40 years at Sandia National Laboratories. You are forever in our hearts and thoughts, grandma Nono. Memories of you are a gift to treasure.
Irene's family wishes to thank the many dedicated physicians, nurses, aides, and others whose outstanding care gave her comfort and peace, and lengthened Irene's time with us.
