Ida (Torres) Martinez

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, grandma, great-grandma, Ida, from Albuquerque NM, 93, who passed on Thursday, August 3, 2023. She is now in heaven with her parents and husband. She was a strong independent woman who dedicated her life to family, church, and her community center. Ida was born on Sunday, April 13, 1930, and throughout her life she lived it to the fullest. She married Albert Martinez in 1949, who passed in 1996. Ida raised her three sons as a single parent and helped support her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whenever she could. She enjoyed her days as a meat wrapper, meat deli manager, and finally as a cake decorator in the bakery at Smith's Grocery Store. Ida enjoyed being a presiding judge for elections in her community for over two decades. She was a Eucharistic Minister at Holy Ghost Catholic Church and enjoyed services there all her adult life. Ida was a social butterfly and very involved at the Highland Community Center where she enjoyed spending time with her friends.

Ida is preceded in death by her husband Albert Martinez; and parents Benjamin and Julia Torres. She is survived by her three sons; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Sons, Ben Martinez and wife Pat of San Antonio TX, John Martinez and wife Candy of Los Lunas NM, and David Martinez and wife Susan of Chandler AZ; grandchildren Benji Martinez and wife Liz, Andrea Marie Biggs and husband David, Toni Martinez and partner Dchon, Brandi Martinez, Scott Martinez, and Sammi Martinez; great-grandchildren Jason Hise, Brandon Hise, Joseph Altamirano, Esperanza Biggs, Marquis McCullough, Eva Martinez, Davion McCullough, and Erica Martinez. She will be missed by many other family and friends.

A Viewing will start at 6:30 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at FRENCH- University. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 833 Arizona St NE, Albuquerque NM, with Burial following at Mount Calvary Cemetery,1900 Edith Blvd NE, Albuquerque NM,. Reception will be right after at Prestige Event Center, 2019 Fifth St NW, Albuquerque NM.

We thank God for such a wonderful mom, grandma, and great-grandma. It is with heavy hearts that we will not say good bye, but rather we will see you soon. You are now with God and those who went before you. We will love and miss you always, thank you for being a part of our lives.
