Ida Maye King, 95, entered eternal life on June 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Fiercely independent and unwavering in spirit, Ida fought valiantly against her ailments, not for herself, but for those she loved. She spent her life in service to others, offering prayers for family and friends more often than for her own needs. She can now peacefully ride off into the sunset on her horse, wearing her signature cowgirl hat.
Born to George John King and Marie Murphy King on February 18, 1930, in Iyanbito, New Mexico, Ida was of the Tsin Sikaadnii Clan, Tó Baazhní'ázhí Clan (cheii), and born for the Kinyaa'áanii Clan, Tsi'naajinii Clan (nalí). She dedicated her life to family and community. During her working years, Ida held various roles in the retail industry throughout the Continental Divide, Grants, and Gallup areas. Later, she served as a Community Health Representative for the Navajo Nation, a position from which she eventually retired.
A woman of many passions, Ida had a lifelong love for horses and took great joy in collecting horse memorabilia. In her later years, she could often be found tending her sheep and cornfield, tackling home improvement projects, reading novels, solving word search puzzles, and enjoying Western movies. With her quick wit and warm spirit, she brought laughter and joy to those around her.
Ida is preceded in death by her beloved parents, George and Marie Murphy, sisters Etta Y. Arviso and Angeline K. Bowman, brothers, Irwin J. King, Sr., Bob J. King, and Gene A. King, Sr., and daughter, Laura King Fisher (of Vacaville CA).
She leaves behind a large and loving family, including her brother Paddy Ray King of Los Lunas NM; sisters Anita K. Emerson of Gallup NM, and Anna Mae Begay of Ft. Defiance AZ; son-in-law Robert Fisher of Vacaville CA; and daughters Stella M. Scott (Phillip S. Scott) of Albuquerque NM, Angela R. Bahe (Raymond Bahe, deceased) of Gallup NM, Grace A. McCauley (James R. McCauley) of Jamestown NM, and Carol A. Willie (Jasper Willie) of Iyanbito NM.
Ida's legacy also lives on through her 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of her love, strength, and humor.
Ida was a pillar of tenacity, strength, and quiet wisdom. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever guide and comfort those who were blessed to know her.
