Huey Edgar Poe "Bud"

Huey Edgar Poe, known as "Bud" was born on March 3, 1944, to Hugh Hudson Poe and Katie Belle Rives Poe in Houston, Texas.

He passed peacefully on his 82nd birthday, March 3, 2026. Bud's parents were deaf, his mother by birth but his father was "late deafened" by a fever that is now prevented by vaccinations. His first language was ASL and he became the interpreter as soon as he learned spoken English. This massive responsibility shaped his life and by the age of 9 he was contributing to the household income.

This duty caused lifelong anxiety and a fierce drive to succeed which he did with an unwavering sense of ethics and honor his entire life. After his parents moved to Sultan, WA, Bud was forced to follow his senior year in high school. He could not imagine living anywhere but Houston, however after 3 days among clear water, mountains and trees he found home and never looked back.

He entered the University of Washington, becoming such a strong Huskie football supporter he was reported to "bleed purple." He put himself through university by driving delivery trucks of building materials. He graduated in 1968 with a degree in Business Administration.

He arrived in Albuquerque in 1989 as National Sales Manager for Centex (now American Gypsum). He later was on the ground floor of creating several purchasing cooperatives, including BlueHawk, Nemeon and Amarok, serving as the National Recruitment Manager and Business Development Manager.

Bud's life reflected the passion and commitment that defined him. He was a trailblazer and a beloved enigma. For his family and friends, he was a great listener, sound advocate, loyal defender and an invaluable counselor.

He completed several marathons and half marathons, was a mountain climber (summiting Rainier 7 times) along with multiple summits of other major peaks in the Cascades. An accomplished Scuba Diver and an avid road biker, clocking over 11,000 miles before the beginning of his decline in health. A passionate international traveler (never a tourist). He became an advocate for the unhoused in Albuquerque and spent 7 years with his friend, "Steve" whom he had met while handing out food packets while bike riding throughout the city.

He was a moderate Republican until 2016 when the party left him, and he joined the Democrat party as a fiscal conservative with a strong belief in human dignity and rights.

Bud was preceded in death by his Father and Mother; sister, Camille Octavia Poe (Karen Tenneyson); and brother, Clifford Hudson Poe (Dee, deceased).

He shared 35 years with his beloved wife, Rebecca Cheryl Digman and faithful companion, Jake. He is also survived by his cherished brother and sister-in-law, Bernie and MaryAnn Digman, Las Cruces, NM; sister-in-law, Beverly Duncan, San Marcos, TX; nephews, Jack Busenbark (Barbara Hussey) of Austin, TX, Nick Poe, of Boise, ID, and Jason Poe (Evelyn) of San Antonio, TX; nieces, April Fox (Keith) Vienna, Austria, Pat Bernstein (Ethan) of Fremont, CA, niece by choice, Tammy Heilman of Granite Falls, WA, and Katie Poe; great-nephews, Brandon and Kyle Poe, and Preston and Royce Busenbark.

The family is grateful for the compassion and care received by the Mayo Clinic Neurological Unit and Dr. Wicklund, Dr. Salah Mahmoud of Albuquerque, Visiting Angels, Janet Gutierrez, Vanessa Mueller, Alexandria Martinez, and Iris Zarate.

Services for Bud are scheduled on Saturday, April 11, 2026, 2:00 p.m., at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond Place NE, Albuquerque, NM, with a reception to follow.
