Herman Maestas joined his beloved wife, Neyda Maestas of 67 years, his parents and siblings in heaven on August 3, 2016. Herman's extended family will deeply miss him and his wonderful stories from his 95 years.
Born in San Ysidro, NM on September 17, 1920 to Atilano and Eloisa Maestas, Herman and Neyda had six children whom they leave behind, Clara (Meyer) Maestas; Tom Maestas; Mike Maestas; George Maestas and wife, Lillian Maestas; Theresa Simoes and husband, Anthony Simoes; and, Robert Maestas and wife, Susan Maestas (Wilson). He has 2 surviving sisters, Rita Steinbeck and Josie Montoya; 13 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and numerous relatives and friends.
Herman served in the Korean War and in WWII and was honorably discharged after 25 years of service. He and Neyda returned to Albuquerque where Herman worked for The Conservancy District for many years.
Friends may visit one hour prior to Herman's life being celebrated Wednesday, August 10, 2016, 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Burial will be Thursday, August 11, 2016, 12:45 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
