Herbert Gerald Webb, a distinguished professional engineer, Captain in the army corps of engineers, and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, at the age of 92.
Born in 1934, Herb's life was marked by a relentless pursuit of excellence and service. He was a proud alumnus of Kansas State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in civil engineering, followed by a master's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). A highly respected figure in his field, he held multiple professional engineering licenses and dedicated much of his career to the Santa Fe Railway, where his leadership and expertise were instrumental in the company's growth and modernization. His career and life took him across eleven states, moving more than 20 times.
In 1990, Herb retired from the railroad and relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico. However, his passion for engineering did not stop there; he began a significant second career chapter with HDR Engineering, where he continued to contribute his vast knowledge of engineering as Senior Railroad Consultant.
Beyond his professional accolades, Herb served his country in the reserves as Captain in the United States Army. He was also a man of many personal joys-an avid golfer with 8 holes in one, and a traveler who cherished trips all over this country and Europe.
Herb was predeceased by his parents, Harley and Mildred Webb; his brother, Robert; his sisters, Lois and Irene; and his son, Stephen. He is survived by his devoted wife, Marilyn, with whom he shared nearly 72 years of marriage; his son, Michael; Stephen's wife, Jean; and his brother, Jack. Herb and Marilyn are also blessed with four grandchildren-Adrian, Elizabeth, Travis, and Nicholas-as well as nine great-grandchildren: Chloe, Chester, Harriet, Margaret, Jack, Owen, Elizabeth, Oliver, and Edith. Since moving to Albuquerque in 1991 Herb was a dedicated and active member of the Sandia Presbyterian Church. He leaves behind a community that respected him deeply and a family that will forever carry his legacy of integrity, brilliant engineering and love.
