Helen Denise Pisto
11-11-53 - 3-4-16
Helen Denise "Neecy" Pisto, 62, of Albuquerque, NM, died March 4, 2016 following a brief illness. She leaves behind many close friends and her family. She is survived by her brother, Laird A. Pisto (Julie) of Gig Harbor, WA; her beloved niece, Kirsten M. Pisto (Seattle, WA); nephew, Anthony B. Pisto (Chehalis, WA); aunt, Eloise Shaw (Worland, WY); and numerous cousins, (as well as Julie's entire extended family), all of whom she loved dearly. Parents, Robert R. Pisto and Margaret L. Pisto predeceased her. She also leaves Kit, her house cat, and is predeceased by Duncan, Channi, Idaho, and a host of other felines. Denise was a graduate of Skyline High School in Salt Lake City ('72,) the University of Utah ('77, BA Psychology) and Lone Mountain College ('79 MA Paralegal Studies.) She worked as a paralegal throughout her adult life, most recently for Butler Snow, LLP in Albuquerque. She also worked for Eaves Bardacke Baugh Kierst & Kiernan, PA and Sutin Thayer & Browne in Albuquerque, Sugarman, Rogers, Barshak & Cohen in Boston, and Landels, Ripley & Diamond in San Francisco. Denise was active in professional paralegal associations and spoke at many continuing education events. Neecy was born November 11, 1953 and grew up in Casper, Wyoming. She spent summers in Thermopolis, WY where her grandparents, Tony & Grace Pisto, and Vivian Hayes Laird, resided. She enjoyed swimming, horse-back riding and just hanging out with her many cousins in this setting cemented a life-long commitment to family. Nothing was more important to her. And as a result she became adept at genealogy and has connected with many distant relatives in that endeavor. She loved music, art and literature and was generous in sharing with friends and family alike. There were many parties-dancing and storytelling late into the night-and Neecy played gracious hostess, best friend and penultimate stewardess (best aunt in the world). Her ashes will be interred next to her parents at Monument Hill Cemetery in Thermopolis, WY. Services in Wyoming will take place later this spring. A gathering of friends and relatives in Albuquerque was held at her home on March 11th. Denise's friends Peggy Gonzalez, Martha Hardman, Pam Jackson, Kevin Gottlieb and Michael Mustacchi were especially close and immensely helpful throughout her recent illness and have been great support for her family. For those who knew Neecy well, we all recognize that this is the first time she has been early for anything. She will be missed with all our hearts.
