Helen Adele DiSalvo

December 2, 1930 — March 18, 2024

Helen Adele DiSalvo, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024, at age 93. Born December 2, 1930, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

She was an only child, but grew up near her 5 cousins, Ron, Mike, Tracey, Kelly, and Doug, who were like little brothers to her. She enjoyed traveling with her Aunt Frannie and Uncle Bob along with the cousins and became very skilled at watching over 5 rambunctious boys. Helen enjoyed baseball and played softball in high school.

Helen met and married her husband, Don, soon after high school. They had 3 children, Teri, Sharon, and Mike. The family eventually settled in Denver, Colorado where Helen was a wonderful homemaker, seamstress, cook, gardener, and Girl Scout leader. Don had a fatal heart attack in 1964 and Helen became a widow at age 34.

When Helen was 39 she met and later married Joe DiSalvo who was a loving and kind husband and father. Joe had two grown daughters, Tinka and Jody. The blended family shared many fun bustling holidays and birthdays which Helen hosted and all remember so fondly. Helen and Joe enjoyed traveling, with Spain and Hawaii being two of their favorite destinations. Helen also loved to ride her bicycle, go white water rafting, and camping.

When Helen was 48, she returned to school and earned an Associate Degree in Environmental Technology and was involved in developing the Denver Green Belt which is a series of trails winding through the Denver area for pedestrian and bicycle use. She and her best friend, Carol, shared happy times walking and talking along these trails.

Helen was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing bridge and Mexican Train with Joe and their dear friends Tom and JoAnn. Helen was widowed again in 2013 and moved to Albuquerque to be near her daughter, Sharon. Helen will be greatly missed by her children, 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Her love and laughter will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

The family would like to thank the Woodmark of Uptown for the exceptional care they provided Helen for nearly 11 years and also High Desert Hospice for their compassionate care over the last year.

A Catholic Mass of Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 25th, 2024, 10:00 a.m., at Santa Maria de la Vid Abbey, 5825 Coors Blvd. SW, Albuquerque, NM 87121. Helen will be laid to rest in Denver, Colorado, at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Norbertine Community, at the Santa Maria de la Vid Abbey (see address provided above).
