Helen Dal Santo, age 94, of Albuquerque, NM passed away peacefully on August 7, 2017.
She was born April 19, 1923 in Wilkes–Barre, PA. Her daughter, Ret. Judge Diane Dal Santo preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, John; son, John Dal Santo Jr.; daughter, Marlene Hubbard and husband, Roger; daughter, Paula Dal Santo and husband, Ed Anlian; and son-in-law, Fred O’Cheskey. She is also survived by many grandchildren, Sara Hubbard and John Hubbard; Arden Anlian and husband, Patrick Wyman; Kendall Anlian and husband, Matthew Horn; Quentin Anlian; and one great-grandson, Ames Wyman.
Helen went to nursing school at Mercy Hospital in Gary, IN and was commissioned a naval officer serving as a nurse in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Helen and John met in Madura’s Danceland outside of Chicago after the war. After getting married in 1948, they made their way to Albuquerque. Helen enjoyed many things throughout her life. One of her happiest times was studying fine arts at the University of New Mexico. She became an accomplished artist and won many awards. She was a member of the National League of American Pen Women, New Mexico Art League, and the Women Veterans of New Mexico. She was also a wonderful gardener and loved cultivating new plants and watching them grow. John and Helen shared a wonderful life together; they enjoyed dancing, socializing and traveling the world. Helen’s passion for life will be missed.
A Rosary will be recited Friday, August 11, 2017, 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH – Lomas. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, August 12, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Parish, 5311 Phoenix Ave NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Interment will be in Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers please donate to your heart felt cause.
