Tad also leaves Karen's children, Cynde Tagg (Phil), Karen Ann Godard (Byron), Ervin/Kip (Carol), and Mark (Kelli) who have at times been known to call him TadDad. Tad leaves grandchildren, Rachel Pound, Jonathan Pound and Stephanie Pound Wolsterdorff (Connor); step-grandchildren, Keven and Daniel Eastman; and one great-grandchild, Charlotte Avery Pound Wolsterdorff; Karen's 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren will greatly mourn his loss. And last, but certainly not least, Tad’s many loving friends will miss him mightily.
Tad was born on November 26, 1940 to LTC (USN) Harold C. Pound and Katherine Scott Armstrong while his father was stationed in Subic Bay, Manila, The Philippines. Tad never knew his father. As captain of the USS Pillsbury, a Navy destroyer, LTC Pound was ordered to duty a couple days after Tad’s birth. On March 2, 1942 all hands were lost after being overtaken by two Japanese cruisers approximately 200 miles east of Christmas Island.
He grew up in Southern California, West Texas, and attended Fountain Valley School (Fountain Valley, CO) graduating high school in 1960. He earned his BS in Chemistry from Metro State, Denver and his MS in Theology and Pastoral Care from Bexley Hall, Rochester, NY.
Tad was an entertainer extraordinaire performing with Opera Southwest, the Albuquerque Civic Light Opera (ACLOA) and the Oasis Albuquerque Singers in Albuquerque. He was an educator having taught at St. Lawrence Boys School in Queensland, Australia. He was Children’s Music Minister at a local charismatic Catholic church. He served as respite chaplain at the Albuquerque Opportunity Center/Heading Home. And as a founding member of San Gabriel the Archangel Episcopal Church, Corrales, NM. Tad served in numerous capacities: formation instructor, usher, eucharistic minister, lector, licensed preacher, and mission/parish vestry member from 2005-2018.
Tad’s music interests were many—from Pavarotti to the Weavers, John Groban to Queen. He often shared his love of music with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he dearly loved. They enjoyed hearing Grandpa/Tad/GranTad play the guitar and sing "There’s a Hole in My Bucket” and "There was an Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly..." and always kept asking for more!
A profound thank you to D&R for their care, love and attention over this past year. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Tad's memory to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond NE, Albuquerque, NM 87106.
