Guillermo “Masa” Navarrette, born on July 18, 1949, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2025 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Guillermo joined the Army in 1969 and was a Proud Vietnam Veteran. During his service he was awarded multiple medals including his prized Sharp Shooter Badge and a Purple Heart. He married the love of his life, Evangelina Navarrette, in 1971 and they spent 54 blessed years together.
Over the years Guillermo opened his heart and his home to take in and help countless family members and friends. Together, Guillermo and Evangelina have raised their nieces Jeanette Bailey, Ashley Contreras and Mariah Griego. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing pool and watching sports. Many of these things he did with his friends, family and loved ones creating memories and stories to cherish, share and remember him by.
Guillermo was preceded in death by his father Efren Navarrette, mother Faye Navarrette and sister Cristina Navarrette. He is survived by his wife, Evangelina Navarrette, his brothers Lionel Navarrette, Efren Navarrette Jr., sister Priscilla Ortiz, multiple brothers and sisters in law along with countless nieces and nephews.
In honor of Guillermo’s remarkable life and service, a Mass will be held on December 11, 2025, at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, located at 811 Guaymas Pl. NE, Albuquerque, NM, starting at 11:00 AM. Following the Mass, a graveside service will take place at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, beginning at 12:30 PM at 9224 Menaul Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM. A reception will take place following the burial at the American Legion Post 13, allowing all those who knew and loved Guillermo to share memories and celebrate his legacy together.
