Gregory "Skip" Baker Newgard, born on December 17, 1945, in The Dalles, Oregon, passed away on February 16, 2026, in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Newgard; his son, Gregory Allan Newgard and stepdaughter Mandy Newgard, and his grandsons, Cameron and Austin Newgard; and his sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Gary Mayne.
Skip served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps on active duty from 1965 to 1967, including time spent overseas in the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of Corporal. Upon his return, he served in the reserves until 1971. After his service, Skip pursued a career in management within the sporting goods industry, where he made a lasting impact through his expertise and dedication to both his employees and his customers.
An avid outdoorsman, Gregory had a deep passion for hunting, which he often shared with family and friends. He also had a love of homing pigeon racing at various times of his life and was a sport he shared with his son when he was young.
Throughout his life, he his love for others, especially his friends and neighbors, was a large part of who he was. Many have shared stories of times Skip came to their aid at a moment notice, doing what he could without asking for anything in return.
Gregory Newgard will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, whose love for his family and passions defined his life.
