Gordon Frettem

Gordon Elroy Frettem, (95), of Los Lunas, NM passed away on March 2, 2024. Gordon was born July 6, 1928, in Faribault, MN to Carl and Miranda Frettem. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Padgett Frettem; two daughters, Barbara Shortman (Leon) of St. Ignatius, MT; Trudy Sharpless (Mike) of Greer, SC; four grandchildren, James Sharpless (Melissa), Andrea Thomason (Tim), Erik Tesluk (Renee) and Kristen Chaves (Isaac); and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Marlin Frettem, of Los Lunas, NM and sister, Joan Bringgold, of Georgetown, TX.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eleanor June Hedger Frettem; and three sisters, Donna Matthias, Margie Ringquest, and Carol Knapp.

Gordon graduated from high school in Faribault, MN. He spent many years in the Dakotas. While living in the Dakotas he worked as a surveyor exploring for oil in the northwest part of South Dakota. He also worked several years for the SD State Highway Department as a Party Chief of a survey crew. He attended college in South Dakota and New Mexico.

From 1955 to 1983 he worked for the NM State Highway Dept. in Santa Fe as an Engineering Technician and Highway Designer. As Safety Engineer he served on Governor Bruce King's Safety Committee. He was a member of the US Military Engineering Society, a member of the Santa Fe/Los Alamos Professional Engineer Society (Vice President) and worked with the Boy Scouts of America. Gordon was politically active during the McCain run for president. After retirement from the NM Highway Dept., he moved to Albuquerque where he owned and operated the Carlisle Office Center for many years.

Gordon was a dedicated Christian. He was a member of Family Worship Center, Baton Rouge, LA.

A memorial service will be held at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd., NE, Albuquerque, NM on March 11, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Graveside to follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd., NE, Albuquerque.
