Gloria Rios

Gloria (Hidalgo) Rios, 94, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025. Born on September 23,1930 in Delicias Chihuahua Mexico, she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Gloria is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years Roberto (Beto) Rios Sr., father Jose Hidalgo, mother Aurora Marrufo, sisters Elvia Chacon and Selma Montes, and brother Miguel Hidalgo. She is survived by brother and his wife Manny & Linda Marrufo, sister Josie (Minnie) Grado, four children and their spouses: Robert, Melissa & Dale Rugge, Patty & Bobby Lopez and Ruben & JoAnne Rios, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Gloria and Robert were married in El Paso, Texas in June 1953, where they raised their four children and built a beautiful life around family and friends. They moved to Albuquerque in 1994 and lived an active life. Gloria welcomed everyone with open arms and was loved by all who knew her. She loved people and captured the hearts of many.

After Robert's passing in 2007, Gloria served in three ministries at Risen Savior Catholic Church: The Women's Guild, Lunch with the Lord, and as Greeter at Sunday mass. She had a very strong faith in God and was abundantly blessed throughout her life. She prayed daily and was always grateful for God's provision in her life. She enjoyed many friends and activities at two Senior Centers: Bear Canyon Senior Center and North Domingo Baca Community Center. She celebrated life every day and lived hers to the fullest until her very last day.

Gloria loved to travel and took many domestic and international trips with Sun Tours. She exercised regularly for many years and at age 94 was still part of a light fitness class 3 times per week. She loved hosting UNO parties. She was blessed in her later years to have met her companion, John Vale and his son David. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and numerous friends.

Gloria's funeral services are scheduled for Monday, June 16 and Tuesday, June 17:

Funeral Mass-Risen Savior Catholic Church, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM

87109, Tuesday, June 17 @ 9:15am followed by internment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Catered reception for family and friends at FRENCH - Wyoming Reception Hall @ 12:00pm.
