Glenn Allen Beard, 57, died October 22, 2026. He is survived by his children, Garrett and Carly Beard and Clayton Carey; his life partner, Ferris Simmons; his parents, Sam and Edwina Beard; his sister, Meredith Calhoun and her husband Trevor; his nieces, Ellie and LeeLee Calhoun; and a host of friends and colleagues.
Born and raised in Albuquerque, Glenn graduated near the top of his class at Sandia High School. He earned a degree in Political Economy from Williams College and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown Law School before returning to his hometown to practice employment and medical malpractice defense law, most recently at the Rodey Law Firm.
Glenn was a proud and loving dad who treasured spending time with his children-leading bike rides along the Bosque, reading stories to them at bedtime, taking them on hikes and camping trips, encouraging them through the ups and downs of many soccer seasons, and guiding them to an appreciation of the music he loved.
Glenn found great joy and freedom in the New Mexico out-of-doors. He loved camping, fly fishing on the Brazos River, and cycling long distances along roads in the East Mountains. He was a loyal Eagles football fan, a championship speller and member of the grammar police, a world class food snob and accomplished grill chef with a serious addiction to hot green chile, and he had a wicked sense of humor. He was also a music lover and talented musician himself, having mastered the bassoon in his youth and become a more recent enthusiastic afficionado of karaoke.
Despite a hereditary preference for cats, Glenn bonded with the animals at the ranch he shared with his beloved Ferris, especially Earl the calf, Pistol the heeler, Charles the turkey and of course Rosie the cat.
Friends are invited to a gathering in Glenn's honor at noon on Saturday, November 21, in the La Vida Llena community room at 11100 Lagrima de Oro NE, at the corner of Lagrima de Oro and Juan Tabo. Gifts in his memory may be made to BikeABQ or Free Bikes 4 Kidz New Mexico.
