Gladys Mirta Gonzalez, 77, left us peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, May 8, 2025 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Gladys was the warmest, kindest and most loving person most people will ever know. She loved her family, her friends, and her church with all her heart. She brought smiles to all those around her and never failed to have uplifting words to all who came in contact with her.
Born in Moca, Puerto Rico, she moved to the states as a young child and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. There in high school she met the love of her life, John Henry Gonzalez. They married after graduation, then John joined the US Army, where they embarked on adventures and experiences around the world. During their journeys they had 4 boys: John Alex, Bryan, Justin, and Marco.
She worked for the Army Corps of Engineers, where her insatiable curiosity and thirst for knowledge helped her advance from being an administrative assistant to retiring as an engineering project manager. Her family and raising her sons to be good men was the highlight of her life. When she retired with her husband to Huntsville, Alabama, they both became an integral part of their church and were part of a new family of friends and parishioners. Gladys sang in the choir and had the voice of an angel and actively took part in bible study to expand her understanding of her faith.
Gladys moved back to Albuquerque in early 2021 to be closer to her family and lived out the rest of her days there. She was preceded to Heaven by her husband John Henry & her sons Bryan and Marco. She is survived by her sons John Alex and Justin, and her grandkids John Austin, Julia and Chloe.
