On Saturday, August 19, 2023, Geraldine Marie Thomsen (Gelmi) died after a lengthy illness. She was born on Friday, April 3, 1942 at Ishpeming, Michigan Hospital to Emelio and Dorothy Gelmi of North Lake, Michigan. She attended North Lake School through the 8th grade and graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1961. Shortly thereafter she attended nursing school in Iron Mountain, Michigan earning a certification in nursing. She applied her nursing training at Marquette, Michigan General Hospital as an operating room technician, specializing in brain and heart surgery. In 1981 she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and worked at the University of New Mexico Hospital, Labor and Deliver Unit. She retired from nursing in May 2002. Geraldine's favorite hobby was her horses. She loved to ride on the various trails and ditch banks near her home in Bosque Farms, New Mexico. She later developed a passion for traveling on cruise ships. She is survived by her husband Robert Thomsen; son Kurt Remus, and wife Melissa; grandchildren Kyle, Nicholas and Sophia; siblings Darlene Kurian, Butch Gelmi (Gail) and Sherri Salmon (Tom); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Emelio and Dorothy; and her brother-in-law Paul Kurian. The family and friends of Geraldine would like to thank the loving and caring staff of Presbyterian Hospice. In lieu of services or flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Walkin N Circles Ranch a horse rescue organization, located in Stanley, New Mexico.
