George David (Dave) Wertz, Jr.

Dave passed away on Saturday September 5, 2026. He was 74 years old. He was born May 26, 1952, to George D. Wertz Sr. and Nanette Hood Wertz in Larkspur California. He attended St. Albert the Great and graduated from Palo Alto High School in 1970 where he was captain of the basketball and baseball teams. He received a basketball scholarship to San Jose State, and upon receiving his draft notice, enlisted in the Army National Guard. Upon completion of basic training, he transferred to the University of New Mexico where his parents had met and married during World War II. He started his professional career in banking and transitioned to his lifelong career in lumber sales/broker, starting at Sagebrush Sales in Albuquerque and retiring from Western Woods in Chico, California. After retirement, he enjoyed making silver and turquoise jewelry.

He loved fishing, all sports but most importantly, his beloved 49ers, Norte Dame, and SF Giants. He was a devoted Lobo football and basketball fan. His happy place was the beach in San Clemente, California.

Dave is survived by his wife of 50 years, Tina; sons, David and Chris of Albuquerque; daughters, Katie of Los Angeles, California and Sara and her partner, Christian Verry of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; and Dave's grandchildren, Damien and Robyn. He is also survived by his brother, Phil Wertz (Pam) of Carlsbad, California; brother-in-law, Bruce Shaffer of Elk Grove, California; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Amy Shaffer.

Services scheduled for Dave are a Rosary, Monday, September 14, 2026, 6:00 p.m., at FRENCH - University. The Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, September 15, 2026, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 2621 Vermont St. NE.

The family wishes to thank Hospice de La Luz, Buena Vista Senior Care, Advantage Assisted Living, and especially, Doctor Alexander Young.
