He worked on water quality and air quality related to the San Juan Generating Station. He was also a member of the PNM Speakers Bureau. During this time he completed his MS in Industrial Management from UNM's Anderson School of Business. He returned to the City of Albuquerque to work in the Air Quality Division of the Environmental Health Department, from which he retired. He was a huge sports fan, and he loved the UNM Lobos and the Dallas Cowboys.
