Frank Butts, age 76, of Corrales, NM, beloved husband, horseshoer, musician, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, mentor and friend to many, passed away in his own bed in the early hours of February 15th, 2026. Just two weeks after his wife Lynette, he was in hospice, but her death was too much for him to bear.
Frank never met a stranger, he loved to sing and play his guitar, be with his friends, a horse whisper and in love with all of his girls and newest great-grandson, who he has always wanted.
Frank was born on July 22, 1949, a hot summer day in Monahans, Texas to Opal (Johnson) and George Butts. The family went back to Opal's family ranch in Tinnie New Mexico. Frank was the oldest of four children, he helped Mom and Pop around the ranch. He attended school in Ruidoso graduating with the class of 1969. He was very popular and outgoing, on the wrestling and football teams, and prom king. Frank moved around in his late teens and early twenties; he eventually landed in Raton cooking at the Palace restaurant. Within months of moving, he joined a band and met the love of his life. Frank and Lynette were married on March 25, 1978. Daughter, JoLynn was 6 and baby Sarah joined the family a year later. The Butts family settled in Corrales, 1988. Biology was never a factor, Frank raised and mentored so many, his loss is felt greatly by all that knew him well. He will always be remembered by his big Texan voice and personality.
Frank is survived by his children, JoLynn (Steve) Kniffin, Sarah (Luis) Sandoval all of Albuquerque, Jennifer (Michael) Gruger of Tularosa and Misty Medders of Colorado Springs; grandchildren, Sage Butts of Dubai UAE, Reed (Spencer) Mason of Newport, OR, Steven Campay of Colorado Springs, Maiah (Nick) Passaglia and Alyssa Sandoval, and lastly great-grandson, Aurelio Passaglia all of Albuquerque. Honorable mention to his closest friends: Terry and family, Lyn and Eva, Marty, Tom and nephew, Adam. The most legendary friend, Floyd, who helped pull off some of Frank's best shenanigans. Along with countless friends and family.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, George at age 47, mother, Opal at age 96 just eight weeks prior to her oldest son. Lastly, both younger brothers, Harlan and Dale Butts.
Dual memorial services will be held for Mr. and Mrs. Butts on their 48th wedding anniversary Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at the FRENCH - Westside Chapel. Lynette loved pink and sunflowers, Frank loved blue and horses, feel free to show your love for them by wearing these colors/themes if you wish.
