George Meza Aguirre, 94, met Our Lord early on the morning of October 14, 2024. He was a devout Catholic and his love for his family was a testament to his faith. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be missed by his family and friends. He was born in Tucson, Arizona December 16, 1929. He spent two years in Camarillo, California discerning the priesthood and then enlisted in the United States Navy. He served on the U.S.S. Kearsarge during the Korean War. He proposed to and married Socorro Aguirre in 1960 in Tucson. He and Socorro lived in Albuquerque, and in 1961, they had a daughter, Ana Luz. Socorro passed away in 1969. In 1971, George met Bertha Benites and in 1972, he married her and welcomed her children, Marie, Charlie and Ralph Benites into his family and his life. She preceded him in death in 2006. George taught at Highland High School for 30 years, the last 7 years he also taught simultaneously at the Career Enrichment Center. Upon his retirement from Albuquerque Public Schools, he taught Latin at Menaul High School for 5 years. After this, he worked as a Bailiff for the late Honorable Mark A. Macaron for 10 years at the Second Judicial District Court in Albuquerque.
A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. at Saint Augustine Cathedral 192 S. Stone Ave, Tucson, Arizona on Monday, November 4, 2024 with the Funeral mass to follow.
He will be laid to rest with Socorro Aguirre at Holy Hope Cemetery 3555 North Oracle Road Tucson, Arizona.
On November 19, 2024 at 10:00 a.m., a Memorial mass will be held at the Shrine of Saint Bernadette, 11509 Indian School Road NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
