Freda Mae Ott Lofties

She came into this world on November 2nd, 1926. The daughter of Loy and Thelma Ott from Bearden, Oklahoma. Sister to Bill Ott, she attended school in Bearden and eventually graduated from Wewoka High School in 1944. After graduation she remained in Wewoka, working at a local bank. It was at this bank where she met a young man who had returned back home to Wewoka after serving overseas with 45th Infantry Division. They dated and then married in 1946.

After the marriage occurred, Joe and Freda were off to Stillwater where Joe attended Oklahoma A&M University and Freda managed the money and would eventually prepare the house for the first of three children, she would give birth to. Those children were Larry Wayne, Karen Jo and Keith Alan Lofties.

Freda and family eventually migrated to Lawton, Oklahoma and then to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1955, where Joe worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Freda became a work-at-home mother.

Freda watched her children grow, marry, and create their own families. Freda became the grandmother of 9, great-grandmother of 13 and great-great-grandmother of 2.

The years after Freda and Joe became empty nesters were filled with watching the local grandchildren in the activities and hearing of the exploits of their Texas family, along with their long-time involvement with the New Mexico State Fair, Montgomery Church of Christ, and a friendship they developed with Former Governor Tom Bolack.

In the early 2000’s Freda became the primary health support for Joe and his diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, which eventually took him from her in 2006.

In 2014, Freda had to experience another family loss with the active-duty death of GySgt Charles Walden Lofties, USMC, of Texas.

On October 26th, 2023, Freda was called home, just 8 days shy of her 97th birthday. Holding to her wishes, her family is not having a memorial service but rather has chosen to have her 97th birthday party on November 1st, 2023, at the Woodmark at Uptown, from 4:00PM to 6:00PM.
