Fred Montoya, age 77, a dedicated husband & father, our family's rock, a well-known Albuquerque Wood Carver, passed away Wednesday May 01, 2024. Fred Montoya was born on January 16, 1947 in the Barelas Neighborhood. Fred Montoya was a US Army Veteran and was known for his amazing wood carvings, friendly smile, being a hard worker, and dedication to God and his family. Fred Montoya worked at Kirkland Air Force Base for 28 years, SAM'S CLUB on the Westside of Albuquerque for 21 years, was the Superintendent of Creative Arts at the New Mexico State Fair for 32 years. Fred Montoya would always say "not to worry and that God would provide." He also said to "be kind to one another." Fred Montoya was a simple man and would give the shirt of his back. He is survived by his wife Teri (Thresa Montoya), his children, Fred R. Montoya & wife Jazzmine Montoya, Joshua Montoya & Jasmine, Vanessa Vega and his grandchildren, Victoria, Felicity & Jordan, Anthony & Autumn, Johnathon, Ciana & Julian, Aly, and Rey. Grandpets Yoshi, Rambo, Blaze, Billy Jean, and Peach. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elfego & Lena Montoya. He is survived by his brothers and sisters. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He touched the lives of many of his friends.
A rosary will take place on Friday, May 24, 2024, with mass to follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 309 Stover Ave SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102.
