Fred A. Malone, age 85, left this world peacefully to be with God on Monday, August 18, 2025. Fred was born April 15,1940 in Alamogordo, New Mexico, the son of Fred M. Malone and Esther Malone. He grew up in Alamogordo and developed a strong work ethic and deep love for learning new things. He graduated high school and attended junior college at New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, New Mexico. He then left New Mexico and went to the University of Texas to pursue a degree in Biology. He then transferred to Waco, Texas to complete his degree at Baylor University. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Geology. It was at Baylor University where he met the love of his life, Kathryn Henderson. Once they were married, they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico so he could utilize his degree in a career with the City of Albuquerque in the Environmental Health Department where he worked in the Urban Biology division specializing in vector-borne diseases to which he dedicated himself for 30 years. After retirement, he got a job with Southwest Airlines as a reservation agent. He loved his job of helping people get to their destination and the fun of being able to travel around the world.
Fred was a loving husband and a devoted father to two daughters. As a husband and father, he was always there to offer guidance, love, and a homemade meal. His devotion didn't stop there! He provided for three grandchildren in countless ways especially to support their paths in obtaining college degrees. He cherished family gatherings where he couldn't wait to talk about what was going on in everybody's lives and of course, to share his love for cooking. His presence at holidays and celebrations brought warmth and joy to him as well as to those around him.
Fred had many passions in life, including fishing in nearby lakes and even in faraway places like Canada, building model airplanes where he established lifelong friendships, and restoring old cars, which he shared with his daughters and grandchildren. He was known for his notable comment, "the point is..." when he really wanted you just to listen, the kind heart to protect someone in need, and always to offer advice.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn Malone, his children (Jocelyn Duran; her spouse, Gregory Duran and Heather Sickenger; her spouse, Doug Sickenger), and three grandchildren, (Caitlyn Duran, Steven Duran, and Megan Sickenger). He is also survived by his siblings, (Cecilia Gerdes of Suffield, Connecticut; her spouse, Lyle Gerdes and Linda Evenson of Las Cruces; her spouse, Butch Evenson and Mary Ann Malone of Las Cruces). Finally, other extended members of the family include Kathryn's sister, Miriam Eley of Titusville, New Jersey; her spouse, Elem Eley as well as many nieces and nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
