Fred Lopez

Federico "Fred" Lopez, 84, of Socorro, New Mexico, passed away peacefully in his home in Albuquerque, surrounded by his family on September 2, 2026.

Fred was born in Socorro, New Mexico, on September 29, 1941 to Damacio Lopez and Adelina Apodaca. After graduating from Socorro High School, he moved to Albuquerque to attend Draughon's Business College and worked at ACF Industries.

On December 8, 1962, on the feast of Immaculate Conception, he attended mass at Immaculate Conception Church and met the love of his life, Diana Gallegos. Fred and Diana married on November 28, 1963. They were married for 62 years and had four children. After marrying Diana, he continued his education at Saint Joseph's College on the Rio Grande and obtained his bachelor's degree. After ACF Industries, he went on to have a successful career at General Electric for 30 years.

Fred was an avid golfer from a young age and never missed an opportunity to be on the golf course with his family and friends. His job at General Electric took him and his family to many places, where he made long-lasting friendships. He enjoyed gardening, often spending hours outside, picking fruit which sometimes wouldn't make it to the kitchen.

In 2005, Fred and Diana moved back to Albuquerque to enjoy retirement, traveling, and spending time with their grandchildren and his friends.

Fred will be remembered as a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Fred is survived by his wife, Diana, and his four children: Fred Lopez (Elizabeth), Stan Lopez (Brenda), René Bone (Brian), and Monique Vallejos (Franco); his eight grandchildren: Isabel and Olivia Lopez; Simone Lopez; Milena, Sophia, and Noah Bone; Hunter and Natalie Vallejos; and his brother, Damacio Lopez (Sally).

Fred is preceded in death by his father, Damacio; mother, Adelina; and his brothers, Raymond, Joe, Richard, and Nick.

A Rosary will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, 6:00 PM at FRENCH-Wyoming.

A mass will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026, 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church (2621 Vermont St. NE, 87110). He will be laid to rest at Mount Calvary after the mass. A reception will follow the burial at the family residence.
