Fred Lackey

Fred Lackey, 81, passed away January 15, 2017. He was born in Gallup, NM on October 25, 1935 and lived most of his life in Grants, NM. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Albuquerque and attended college at UNM.

Fred was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, but most of all he was an avid golfer. Fred worked at Continental Divide Electric Cooperative in Grants, NM and was the General Manager for several years. He also served on the National Board of Directors for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, where he served as Secretary, Vice President, and President.

Fred is survived by his wife, Marcia Lackey; sister, Charlotte Monette of Socorro, NM; children, Fred Lackey of Albuquerque, Keven Lackey of Grants, Kristin Corona of Albuquerque, Lisa Lackey and fiancée, Jim Gray of Grants, and Brian Lackey of Los Lunas; grandchildren, Alan Roane of Socorro, Austin Roane and Jasmine Aguilar of Grants, Brittany Lackey of Los Lunas, Cody Corona of Albuquerque, Bailee Corona of Albuquerque, and Zachary Corona of Albuquerque; and great-grandchildren, Christian Roane, MacKenzie Roane, and Uriah Roane all of Grants.

Fred was preceded in death by parents, Pauline and Paul Platter; sister, Pauline Barker, brother-in-law, Chuck Monette; and nieces, Marliss Monette and Tammy Fowler.

Rosary will be recited on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. with Mass following at 10:00 a.m., at St. Teresa de Avila Catholic Church, 500 W. High St., Grants, NM. Friends may visit beginning at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be at Grants Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family has set up a scholarship fund at Grants State Bank.
