Fred Lawrence Johnson

September 10, 1953 — November 11, 2024

Fred was born September 10th, 1953, first beloved son of Lawrence and Billie Ann Johnson. Fred made the crossing peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 11th, 2024, with his cherished and devoted wife, Rita by his side.

Fred and his siblings grew up in Albuquerque, attending Eubank, Bellehaven, Grant and Manzano public schools. Fred enjoyed a keen interest in auto mechanics, and for nearly a decade pursued a career with NAPA. Fred moved to Anchorage, Alaska to be near his sister, Jeri. Upon his return to New Mexico, in 1985, Fred enrolled in the Computer Science program at CNM, where he met the love and shining light of his life, Rita. They were married four years later and made their home in Los Lunas. Fred and Rita opened their home to many a furry creature, all of them rescues and each of them much loved and pampered.

Fred enjoyed an over three-decade career with Presbyterian Healthcare Services in IT Support and valued the many friendships he forged during his service to PHS. He retired in 2019, and he and Rita enjoyed several road trips together in recent years, reconnecting with family and friends far and wide. Fred's kindness and gentle manner was authentic. He and Rita showered their family with love and generous gifting, never forgetting a birthday or special occasion.

Fred was pre-deceased by his parents; he is survived by his wife of 33 years, Rita; sisters, Jeri and Judy; brother, Phillip; mother-in-law, Naomi; sisters-in-law, Tina and Janelle; nephews, Greg, Ryan, Corey, and Jay Kory; nieces, Dawn and Jennice; and many treasured cousins.

A Celebration of Life service will take place at a later date in 2025. In lieu of flowers, please consider a Memorial Gift in Fred's name to Animal Humane New Mexico or the charity of your choice.
