Frank W. McDougall, 74, passed away June 6, 2016 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Frank was born on November 10, 1941 in Albuquerque to Frank and Noretha McDougall. He was born prematurely at seven months with a hole in his heart. He weighed just two-and-a-half pounds. His doctor told his parents he wouldn't make it. However, Frank, Sr. brought him home and created a makeshift incubator out of a shoebox, hot water bottles and a dresser drawer. With his dad's help, Frank gained strength and fought hard to survive. He never lost that fighting spirit. After surviving two bouts of lung cancer and a lifetime of heart disease, his heart finally gave way.
He was a beloved husband, father, brother and friend. He was also a stubborn man with a strong will. He was a hard-working marine mechanic for more than 40 years, before retiring. Retirement bored him and he soon went to work for Sam's Club, where he enjoyed interacting with customers and his coworkers.
Despite his illnesses, Frank always stayed active. During his years at Albuquerque High School, he was an all-state wrestler. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and boating. His favorite spots were the Navajo Dam and Elephant Butte Lake.
He is survived by his wife of almost 52 years, Geneva McDougall of Albuquerque; son, Damon McDougall of Tyler, TX; daughter, Tanya McMackin and husband, Michael of Manhattan, KS; his two sisters Billie Tucker and husband Cecil and Noretha Tucker and husband Don; four grandchildren, Clarissa Boorse, Dana Richards and Kaitlyn and Conner McMackin and one great-grandchild, Kaylin Richards.
Frank's family would like to extend a special thank-you to Dr. Melanie Van Amsterdam, to his hospice nurse, Karen Kelso, and to the hospice in-patient unit doctors and nurses at Anna Kaseman Hospital, where Frank spent the last 13 days of his life.
