Frances Chavez Gonzales, 93, passed away on February 4, 2016. Frances was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, being raised by Eusebio and Emma Sanchez and their family. She worked and retired from Jill's Bakery after many years. Frances also was a nanny to the five children of Dr. Hubert Teague. Frances was a hardworking, independent woman who shared her strengths and values with her extended family. She was a true pioneer of women's liberation in New Mexico. At the age of 40 she married Alfonso Gonzales and they were together until his death. Frances lived life to its fullest and always looked beautiful.
Frances is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Alfonso; her parents, Jesus and Antonia Chavez; brother, Antonio; and sister, Mariana. She is also preceded in death by her cousins, Lucy Tafoya, Willie Sanchez, and wife Josephine Sanchez, Eloy Serna and Gloria Brown; and nephews, Frank R. Barela, and Willie Sanchez Jr.
She is survived by her loving "goddaughter" and caregiver of over 20 years, Debbie Serna Black and daughters, Azalea and Brittany Black and grandson, Augustine John. She is also survived by her cousins, Emily Martinez, Rosie Serna, Mary Lou Saavedra, Eloisa Taylor, Loretta Martinez, Charlie, Eusibio, Jr., Paul and Johnny Sanchez.
A Rosary will be held on Friday, February 12, 2016 at 9:30 a.m., with visitation to start at 9:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5303 Phoenix Ave. NE. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
